More Americans are living longer than ever before, and healthily so. However, according to the Alzheimer’s Association’s latest report, the number of Americans with Alzheimer’s dementia is also growing—to a projected 7.2 million by 2025. This means that more of us will eventually be caregivers, seeking resources and making plans for loved ones who require specialized dementia settings and services.

Join Institute on Aging (IOA) and Kensington Place Redwood City for an interactive presentation, moderated by Alison Moritz, Program Director, Enrichment Center at the Presidio, IOA. Our experts will share with us an assortment of Bay Area dementia and caregiver resources, examine a few family case scenarios, and discuss development of a basic care plan for family caregivers.

Mary Griffin, RN, MPH, Vice President of Home Care and Support Services, IOA.

Mary has 30+ years of experience in nursing, senior care, and home health.  She has held positions with national home care companies where she has had numerous leadership roles. Prior to joining IOA, Mary was president and co-founder of A Better Living Home Care, a California- based, private-duty home care provider with offices in the greater San Francisco and Sacramento areas. She has lectured extensively to medical foundations, health care associations, and insurance companies on cost and care-effective patient post-discharge follow-up solutions. She has also published articles on a variety of health care topics and has written a chapter in the Medical Entrepreneur’s Handbook. In addition to her professional credentials, Mary was the primary family caregiver for her 91-year-old mother who was afflicted with memory impairment and debilitating arthritis. Mary’s combined personal and professional experiences provide great insight into understanding client and families in need, and how best to serve them. She earned her Master’s in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from San Jose State University.
