Top Questions Job Seekers Ask About Working in Memory Care—Answered

If you’re considering a career in memory care, you likely have questions, and we’re here to answer them. At Kensington Place Redwood City, we value transparency and want job seekers to feel confident and informed.

Our Promise is to love and care for your family as we do our own.

1. What is memory care, and how is it different from assisted living?

Memory care is specialized senior living designed for individuals living with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia. Our community features two distinct neighborhoods:

  • Connections for early to middle-stage memory loss
  • Haven for late-stage dementia support

These environments are structured, secure, and teamed by professionals trained in compassionate communication and behavior management.

2. What kind of training is provided?

All new hires receive:

  • Onboarding and shadowing experiences
  • Ongoing training in dementia care (including Teepa Snow’s Positive Approach to Care®)
  • Optional certification support (e.g., CNA, LVN)

We make sure you feel confident every step of the way.

3. What roles are available in memory care?

We hire for:

  • Care Partners (entry-level caregiver roles)
  • Medication Technicians
  • LVNs and RNs
  • Life Enrichment and Activity Coordinators
  • Dining and Hospitality team

4. Is memory care emotionally difficult?

It can be emotionally complex, but also incredibly rewarding. You build relationships that matter and make a visible impact every day. Kensington Place’s support systems and wellness programs are designed to help caregivers thrive.

5. What qualities are most important in memory care team members?

  • Empathy and patience
  • Good communication skills
  • Attention to safety and routine
  • Willingness to learn and grow

You don’t need prior experience—just a heart for service and a desire to learn.

6. What’s the culture like?

It’s compassionate, supportive, and family-oriented. We live by Our Promise: “To love and care for your family as we do our own.”
