On-Site Senior Rehabilitation and Memory Care Therapy

A major part of ensuring that loved ones with memory loss can stay safe and be well cared for is providing them with the special attention and therapies available in a memory care community. The comprehensive resources that are available in memory care are integral to maintaining and retaining daily life skills. This is often where memory care therapy comes into play.

We’ve all misplaced keys or walked into a room and forgotten why we were there. Forgetfulness can happen to anyone at any age. However, when forgetting potentially becomes a sign of dementia or Alzheimer’s disease, a senior must get the care that will help them hold onto the skills and abilities they have for as long as possible.

What is memory care therapy?

Memory care therapy is specialized to address the needs of seniors experiencing Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, and other memory-related disorders. The primary goal of this kind of care is to make sure that skills that your loved one still has, remain intact for as long as possible. Memory care therapy is also designed to keep loved ones happy, healthy, and safe as they age and as their memory disease progresses.

What types of memory care therapy are out there?

Memory care therapy is an umbrella term for different types of treatments that are used to help with memory retention, stress reduction, and to provide a sense of comfort and fulfillment for a senior loved one.

Doll Therapy

Doll therapy is typically used for individuals with middle or late-stage dementia. Providing a doll to a senior with dementia can ease anxiety, provide comfort, and allow caregiving opportunities for a loved one who might not be able to do so otherwise. One of the benefits of doll therapy is that it is a non-medicinal way to combat stress and anxiety for a senior.

Pet Therapy

There are numerous benefits to time spent around animals. People who spend time around pets, tend to be healthier, live longer, and be happier. In addition to these benefits, pet exposure can be therapeutic to those experiencing memory loss. Pet therapy can reduce stress, minimize anxiety, and increase happiness for loved ones as they experience dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

Art Therapy

Having a space to create allows for people to express themselves in ways they may not be able to otherwise. Art therapy not only gives way to personal expression and development but also by creating additional connections between synapses in the brain, it brings healing emotionally and physically.

Reminiscence Therapy

Reminiscence therapy is a way of targeting specific memories (usually memories created during late teen years to middle age) that are easier for older adults to connect to and access. Reminiscence therapy is often combined with music therapy to help enhance connection and ground the memories.

Music Therapy

Music therapy is a well-established non-pharmacological way to help seniors experiencing memory disorders connect with positive experiences and fond memories. The documenting of this type of therapy was recorded in a full-length film titled, “Alive Inside.

Eversound at Kensington Place

Kensington Place’s partnership with Eversound means that in addition to the life enrichment activities that our community offers, we are also able to provide unique and innovative therapeutic technologies for your loved ones.

Eversound is a system that relies on advanced audio technology allowing for the full enjoyment and benefit of programs and activities for seniors. The wireless headphones are designed to better allow residents to hear during social activities and interactions.

Eversound headphones can be worn with or without hearing aids during any activity that involves audio. Outings, movies, presentations, and musical performances are all enhanced by Eversound’s unique technology.

Our residents enjoy using the Eversound headphones because they allow for the following:

  • Facilitate better health, well-being, and quality of life
  • Provide supportive family visiting experiences
  • Enable individuals to be active participants in residents’ care

With the support of Eversound, our residents can better enjoy the activities at Kensington Place. This leads to more meaningful and deeper quality interactions and connections for your loved ones and for you.
