October is a Special Month

October is a special month. The heat of summer becomes more of a memory than a present inconvenience, and we begin to look forward to all the traditions that come with the last quarter of the year. Autumn is family time, whether we are carving pumpkins, celebrating Halloween, or just enjoying a football game. With a little chill in the air, it is a great time for being with the ones we love.

As October celebrates the first full month of fall, we’re reminded that Thanksgiving is right around the corner. With a spirit of gratitude, we can’t help but begin to share our expression of thanks for each family and friend who has come to know Kensington Place as an extension of their heart and home. We are continually privileged to know, love and care for your loved one as we do our own families.  It is truly an honor.

New Beginnings

As many have seen, we have been growing and changing.  In the month of September alone, we welcomed 4 new residents to Kensington Place and each one has already begun to enrich our days and melt our hearts. Our Kensington team has also been growing, and you may have seen a few new faces within our own Kensington team.

We also welcome Jessica Swaaley to our team. Jessica will hold the position of Business Office Manager and will champion not only business administration services, but will also be responsible for Human Resources. Her job duties will include the ongoing management of our extensive training program offered to our team members. We are excited for all that Jessica will add to our team.

Many of you have noticed that Life Enrichment is also evolving in new and exciting ways. The department has expanded our outings, gotten momentum with the men’s club and gardening group, begun “Themed Thursdays”, energized daily Happy Hour at 4pm, taken special interest trips, all while keeping exercise a priority. Not to be outdone, the Life Enrichment department also has added two new team members!

Robert Morales and Sadiri Guillermo have joined our Life Enrichment team and bring with them a strong background in Senior Living. Robert will work under the leadership of Janice as they continue to enhance and expand our Life Enrichment programs. We’ve already received so many accolades from many of you on Robert’s energy and passion. Sadiri further compliments our team as an Activities Assistant and has already blown us away with his multifaceted musical talent. He has an amazing voice and is poised to add an element of music therapy to our programming. Make sure you take a moment and check out activities to see first-hand some of the fun we’ve been having – families are always welcome.

Community Updates

As our community is growing, so is our need for parking.  In an effort to reserve parking for families and guests, as of October 1st, team members will be limited to 5 spots. These spots will be immediately on the right when you pull into the parking lot –facing the street, and will be marked “reserved.”  If it turns out that we need these spots in the future for resident families, we will restrict all team member parking.  (The only exception is for those employees that work the 11-7 shift and the 3-11 shift can move their cars off the street after 8:00 p.m.). We hope this helps some of the congestion you may have experienced when visiting Kensington Place.

As discussed at Family Council, if you haven’t already been contacted by Nursing, we will be meeting with each family member/responsible party to review your loved one’s Care Plan. At that time, we will also review the resident’s primary care manager assignment. As a review of our policy, residents are assessed on the following schedule. 1) Prior to move-in, 2) 14 days of residency, 3) after  45 days of residency and 4) every 180 days following (care plan reviews will also include change of condition).  We look forward to meeting with you over the next few weeks.

Special Events

See information below for more on the San Jose Alzheimer’s Walk this coming weekend, and seminars with Dr. Anya Parpura and Jeanette Green.

We hope you can join us for some October celebrations, which will include our 1-year Anniversary party. We will be celebrating in style with food, drink and Dean Martin and Joey Bishop impersonators.  Can you think of a better way to celebrate than with Dean & Joey?

From our family to yours, we wish everyone a great fall season!
