Kensington Senior Living invites all communities to join with World Central Kitchen as one family to support those in need of fresh, nourishing meals in Ukraine.
Kensington Bakes for Ukraine is a fundraiser for Chef Jose Andres’ World Central Kitchen, which is currently working on the front lines to provide meals for citizens following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Why is Kensington Place Redwood City partnering with World Central Kitchen?
At Kensington Place Redwood City, we firmly believe in the importance of nourishing, healthy, fresh meals for our residents, and how food can heal us and improve our lives.
That’s why we have partnered with World Central Kitchen to support their on-the-ground efforts to feed Ukrainians in need, and to bring hope and healing through food.
How does Kensington Place Redwood City support the community?
Our Kensington Place Promise is to love and care for your family as we do our own. This promise extends into all aspects of our care, including the ways we work to support our community of families and caregivers.
We frequently partner with organizations such as the Alzheimer’s Association, Parkinson’s Foundation, and Hilarity for Charity, for fundraising efforts as well as educational events.
Our community recently hosted CareCon with HFC, an event to support and educate caregivers of those with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.
We serve our community with love and the highest levels of care, and always seek to improve the lives of our residents and their families with research, education, and outreach opportunities.
Who is World Central Kitchen and what is their mission?
The World Central Kitchen team is first to the frontlines, providing meals in response to humanitarian, climate, and community crises, according to their website.
Following a 2010 earthquake that devastated Haiti, founder Jose Andres rushed to cook for displaced Haitians in a camp. He quickly learned from residents how they prefer their black beans cooked.
These efforts launched millions of meals served all over the world in times of crisis, and sparked the idea to include the community to rebuild and fight hunger.
How does World Central Kitchen help communities rebuild?
Following an emergency food relief response, the World Central Kitchen team makes long-term commitments to support communities with their food challenges.
The team trains aspiring chefs with the skills and safety to build successful careers and improve the food economy, and also advocates for better nutrition and hunger relief.
Kensington Senior Living finds this mission to serve others and create resilience to be close to our hearts.
Our communities strive to serve others in their time of need, and are always focused on the preventative measures we can take to boost a person’s overall health and wellness.
How will the fundraiser support those in Ukraine?
Throughout the month of April, Kensington Senior Living collected donations for World Central Kitchen, and exeeded our goal for $15,000 goal.
All donations through Kensington Bakes for Ukraine went directly to support the World Central Kitchen team and volunteers as they work on the front lines to provide hot meals.
The sunflower is the national flower of Ukraine, and has the universal power to inspire hope, optimism, and joy even during the most difficult of times.
How far does my donation go?
World Central Kitchen currently supports Ukraine with nearly 300,000 daily meals, and millions of meals served to families across Ukraine, Poland, Romania, Moldova, Hungary, and Spain.
Since the invasion, the relief team has mobilized a network of chefs and volunteers across all six countries, and makes daily food product deliveries throughout Ukraine for their restaurant partners.
Donations to World Central Kitchen support these efforts directly — 100% of proceeds go to the cause.
